Getting Published

Writers need readers, and although not every writer wants to be published, seeing your work in print is a marvellous experience.

If you write fiction and you have just finished your first draft, this is a good moment to read these articles. BUT, and this is a big but, you may have finished that first draft - but you haven't finished your book. It is now that the work really starts.

Writing is re-writing, and if you speak to any published writer they will tell you that the skill comes in redrafting, rewriting, choosing exactly the right word, crafting a scene so it moves the plot forward at exactly the right moment. Best selling author Sarah Webb talks says that· 'bum glue' is the difference between published and unpublished writers - stick to your seat, rewrite and rewrite, and make you manuscript the best that it can be. Irish writers are among the best in the world, work hard and you can join them.

Here we give you information on getting your manuscript published - from knowing when it is ready to send to who to send it too, and how to send it. It is essential that you check agents and publishers guidelines before you submit - don't fall at the first hurdle.

If you would like feedback or your work read and/or edited by published writers or industry professionals before submitting, there are several services available. Check out services for writers for more information.

Best of Luck!
