Submissions
Writing.ie welcome submissions for the Tell Your Own Story sections of www.writing.ie. Please read these guidelines carefully before submission.
While we cannot publish all work received, we appreciate the time and effort you have put into submitting to us and all submissions will be read carefully by our team. We will contact you if your piece has been accepted for publication, when we will request a short biographical piece and a photograph. Please note that we cannot enter into discussion about, or critique of, your submission – we have many published writers available to critique work, check out Services for Writers in The Writers Tool Box.
Guidelines:
Please note that this site is visited by users of all ages and many authors who write for children have linked to us. Content should be appropriate for a broad readership. Should you have a story you wish to submit to The National Folklore Archive, but that is unsuitable for publication on writing.ie, just let us know at the top of your submission.
Monday Miscellany: Snapshots of life, we are looking for a broad range of pieces documenting your thoughts, experiences and appreciations. From memory pieces to poetry, travel writing and personal accounts of events and happenings, these items can be entertaining, thought provoking, poignant or amusing.
Mining Memories: Ireland has undergone a dramatic period of social change in the past 80 years. We want to hear your memories, whether they are of childhood, work or travel, incident or accident or just an ordinary day. Do you remember rural electrification, or did you walk to school through the fields? Where were you when the Pope came to Ireland? Have you emigrated – how has this impacted you and your family? Tell us about your life and we can build a picture of Irish life to pass on to future generations. Poetry or prose welcome.
Writing & Me: What does writing mean to you? Has it changed your life? Did a letter make a difference to you? Have you had a story published? Did your wedding invitation contain a terrible typo? Tell us about you and writing.
Please include: your name, email address & telephone number, the title of your submission and the approximate period it covers (i.e. 1940's, 1950's etc) at the top of your submission.
We also need to know some biographical data in order to help the National Folklore Collection classify your work for the archive. Please add the year of your birth, your place of birth, where you currently live, and your current occupation to your submission. In years to come these pieces maybe used for genealogical research and we need to be sure your submission can be found!
Guideline word counts:
